About me

My name is Fiona and I love to make things. My intention with this blog is to show far-flung friends and family what I have been up to, from sewing, cooking and baking to projects around the house. If other people choose to pop in and read – yay!

I started off making things for myself and my family, then began making things as gifts for friends, then people started asking if I sold what I was making and the orders started flowing! I now have a small business, Pip ‘n’ Milly Creations, which I operate mostly in the evenings when the children have gone to bed. I sincerely love what I do and get enormous satisfaction from designing and making handbags, purses, aprons, crayon rolls etc. I do not advertise or do craft fairs, as word of mouth advertising and recommendations from customers have been sufficient to keep me busy without being overwhelmed. I have learned so much in the last few years and one of the most important lessons has been staying true to my values and achieving a level of quality that I am proud to show off, rather than trying to fit into a lower price point to please more people. For me, it is not about the number of items I sell, but that people recognize the value of my creativity and workmanship. I no longer try to please everyone and I don’t take it personally if someone decides not to order from me, as I know it is not a matter of quality, but more likely to be a question of economics.

The Winking Frog blog chronicles general family life, gardening, crafting and creating on Vancouver Island, whilst the blog over at Pip ‘n’ Milly Creations is geared more to business matters, new products and custom orders. You can follow The Winking Frog on Twitter.

I am indebted to my very supportive and loving family, friends and customers for allowing me to do what I love.

Pip ‘n’ Milly Creations is also on Facebook and on Twitter (pipnmilly).
