Can you hear me now? (continued)

Way back at the beginning of the school year, Pip went through standard hearing screening at school and we were called for follow-up at the hearing clinic at our local health unit. It was a shock to find that she had significant hearing loss in one ear. We have since been to the specialist a couple of times and had another test at the clinic today. Thankfully there has been no deterioration of her hearing since the last test, but she will need to be tested every 3 months for the next little while. The school is installing an FM system to help her out in the classroom and we are also going to need to get her a hearing aid. So far, so good. The problem is that there seems to be no financial assistance available at all to help us cover the $800-$1200 cost of a single hearing aid for our 5 year old.

A mold was taken of her ear today and that will be ready in a couple of weeks, then we can go in again and she can start trying out different aids to see what works for her. The new over the ear hearing aids are much smaller and more discreet than in the past. They even come in different colours!
