Christmas village 2009

I posted awhile ago that we had found a Christmas village collection on our local Kijiji site. It was a really great find, with 17 illuminated buildings, plus numerous trees, people, street lights, train etc. Once Brian gets an idea in his head, there is no stopping him and he planned out and built a wooden table to hold the layout. Not only that, he designed and constructed a mountain to add interest! We spent a couple of evenings with plaster of paris and papier mache and built a mountainside, complete with a tunnel for the train. He also painted the upright sections of the “table” to create a night sky effect, then added LEDs to make constellations!

Once everything was dry and ready, we moved the table upstairs to the living room and starting working on the layout. It will certainly need some tweaking next year, particularly in terms of the street layout, snow and adding a little more dimension, but on the whole I think it is lovely. Brian drilled holes under the buildings so that all the cables hang down under the table. I made a white skirt for the table to hide the cables and boxes.
