Halloween Costumes 2009

This year the girls decided to be coordinate their costumes – big sis will be a witch and little sis will be a black cat. We had a trial run of the costumes this weekend, when the local Pumpkin Festival held a costume contest. We thought it would be fun to take part, though our costumes were perhaps not quite as innovative as in past years! Last year they were “Super Pip”, the pink and purple masked superhero, and the One-Eyed, One-Horned, Flying Purple People Eater. In 2007, Pip was an astronaut, complete with LED-equipped rocket pack! Milly was only a few months old, so we just used a fairy costume from the dress up box.

Pip’s cape had a spiderweb fabric top layer and is lined with a pink-purple graduated colour. It is gathered at the top and ties with a satin ribbon. Her hat is a basic $ store hat, which I decorated with a purple satin band and ‘gold’ buckle, a rat and four bats flying around the crown. Her broom is decorated with pink and purple ribbon to coordinate with her cape and hat band. She did not want to wear a dress or skirt, but opted for stripy pants.

Milly has a black shirt, velvet pants and bolero, handmade felt and maribou ears and a wired maribou tail. She would not wear her black shoes, preferring to wear her new pink ones!

They weren’t too sure about the very scary judges! Whoever thought that it would be a great idea to get frighteningly dressed characters from the Haunted House to judge a costume contest for youngsters really wasn’t thinking very hard!
